Turn on any news station and all you see is doom and gloom. Guess what gets ratings? You guessed it, doom and gloom. Don’t get me wrong, the news is an important part of our day. Just don’t get caught up in the panic of it all!

These ‘challenging’ times can also be looked at as opportunities. Let’s look at our lives and be grateful for what we do have. What do you have to do to turn things around? What proactive changes have to happen in your life to improve your situation? You are not helpless, but gifted with skills and talents. Take some quiet time and reflect on how you can start to turn things around for yourself.

 Stay hopeful, be proactive, take action.

In talking with past clients, friends and colleagues, one of the most common goals for the new year is getting their finances in order.  Is that one of your goals? If so, let me suggest that you start by organizing your financial file cabinet.  Seems simple enough, but, like many things in life, simple is best.  Organize your bills, understand your expenditures,  create an investment account and seek help if necessary. If it’s confusing and scary, don’t go it alone.  They say that confused people do nothing. Please do something, but do it carefully.

I wish you the best in making your dreams come true, whatever that may be.

So, what does football have in common with finances? A plan. As I watch this game, Chargers vs. Raiders, it’s obvious to me that every single play is carefully planned, carefully rehearsed and well thought out. Nothing seems to happen by chance in football. Sometimes, of course, things don’t happen exactly the way it was supposed to, but all the practices, rehearsing and memorizing of plays will pay off on the field.

The same goes for your financial state. If you plan, have a strategy, and have goals written down on paper, your chance of success is far greater than if you just ‘wing it’. Spend some time in the next week and put down, on paper, what it is you want to accomplish financially and how you plan to achieve that. Will you seek help? Will you cut down on the unnecessary spending? What needs to change? Are you committed to that change?

OK, it’s the second quarter and the game is tied. Time to enjoy the rest of the game.

But, here’s the cool part. I love it all. I love family gatherings, I love my business and words can’t express how much I love my son…duh. Within all this ’stuff’ going on, I continue to jump on various tele-classes that feed my heart and brain. On a recent one, I heard someone use this quote, “There are two great moments in your life. One is when you were born and the other is when you figure out why.” Wow, that just hit home in a huge way for me. Why? I feel in the depths of my soul that I was put here to help single and divorced women become empowered with their money. In a good way!  The calm that comes with understanding this topic is huge!

I encourage you to stop for a bit and think about what your purpose is. What gifts do you have that can make this world a better place? What type of legacy do you want to leave?

Wow, the holidays are coming way too fast for my taste! Although I have a million things to do to prepare for Christmas, my son and I took some time out this past weekend to play with the horses. He got a kick (luckily, not literally) when Chance took a bite out of his backside. It’s amazing how the simple things in life can bring such joy and laughter to an otherwise hectic day.

With the holidays fast approaching, try to slow down and breathe. Just know that everything will work out just fine. Remember, most people look back and think about ‘the experience’ they had, not the gift or the food they ate!

Well, I’m back from my workshop with Ali Brown! I had a great time, learned so much and am grateful for the opportunity to learn from one of the best in the business. Funny thing, or not so much, we were both on the 11th floor of the hotel when a fire broke out! When the fire alarm went off at 1:30 in the morning, I thought it was a false alarm. I stuck my head out of the door and saw the floor filled with smoke! Needless to say, I moved fast. Luckily, I was wearing my PJ’s Down we went, 11 flights of stairs, all looking our best…. This photo of us was taken the next day, so if we look tired, you know why. I think I fell back asleep at 4:00 am and up at 5:30 am..Ughhh

With the fires we have had here in the Santa Clarita Valley (in Southern California, where I live), I was done with fires. I guess I wasn’t.

With all this activity, I have seen people come together and take care of each other. It warms the heart to see human nature at work.

I hope you take this time, as I have, to slow down and acknowledge everything in life to be thankful for. Be grateful for every little thing in your world and notice the shift.
